Local Car Wash Supports Fight Against Cancer

Carolina Auto Spa and Express Car Wash – the leading car wash company in Cary and Apex NC announces the annual Matt Cossa Memorial Car Wash Fight against Cancer Fundraising event. Wash your car on Thursday March 3, 2011 and we will donate 50% of all wash proceeds for that day from both our locations to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center in the name of The Matt Cossa Memorial Fund. No special coupons, promotions or instructions are required by the consumer.
About the Matt Cossa Memorial Fund
The Matt Cossa Memorial Fund raises money to further cancer research carried out by the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center in Durham. Matt Cossa is a graduate of Green Hope High School where he was an outstanding student- leader. Matt was a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior. He graduated with honors and a 4.5 GPA in 2003. He lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. As a 4-year starter for the varsity baseball team Matt was a three-time Tri-7 All-Conference selection and a two-time Green Hope HS Defensive Player of the Year. Matt attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and as a junior; he was accepted into the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School just prior to losing his long battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the spring of 2006. All moneys raised by the fund will be applied to the conduct of a novel clinical study to personalize health care choices for patients with high risk lymphoma.
The flagship event for the foundation is the 4th annual Matt Cossa Memorial baseball game held on April 10, 2010 at Green Hope High School. Carolina Auto Spa and other groups raise money through fundraisers like this in anticipation of the memorial game. Last year the foundation raised over $26,500 for Duke’s Comprehensive Car Center. Carolina Auto Spa has historically employed many Green Hope High students and feels a special connection to the school. “My mother, grand father, grandmother and mother-in-law have all suffered from cancer. I can really identify with the Cossa family’s loss and their desire to help their son have a lasting positive impact on our community. I look forward every year to supporting this great local foundation,” said Karl Murphy, Owner Carolina Auto Spa and Express Car Wash. “Last year we raised $1625 for Duke, this year we hope to raise at least twice that by including our Apex location,” said Murphy.
